Project Description :

A limited Architectural Competition was used as a vehicle for Wynndel to engage Architects,

resulting in Rio Architects gaining the commission against five other practices.

The mixed use development includes private residential dwellings (47 houses and 88 flats), 34 affordable dwellings, 8 office units and a cafe.

The 5 acre industrial site lies at the northern end of Chepstow Town and fronts the River Wye. It is within the town’s historic conservation area and demanded a design approach that addresses a responsible approach to a sustainable urban density while sensitively stitching this comprehensive redevelopment into the fabric of the existing historic town.

The site is at an extremely important gateway to Wales and we undertook a detailed visual impact assessment to understand the affect of the development on the town and in particular identify that the vista to the existing castle is maintained.
