Augmented reality

Augmented Reality (AR) is the real time view of an environment whose surroundings have been enhanced by virtual computer generated imagery. Real-life scenes are augment by enhancing what the viewer sees, hears, feels, and smells through descriptive data and graphics.

AR has been used in televised sporting events for a while i.e  the red virtual line indicating the position of the current world record at Olympic swimming events. However, with the advent of more powerful tablets, smart phones, better wireless connections etc the use of AR looks set to revolutionise the architectural profession.

Imagine 2 Dimensional drawings coming to life through AR, holding your smart phone up to a cladding panel and seeing its interface detailing and specification or visualising services within ceiling voids without having to remove the ceiling first. The opportunities are endless.
